Oedipus Rex or Oedipus the King

Other than Oedipus' feet (or ankles), and the concept of blindness, in what ways is Sophocles utilizing symbolism within the play? What is the effect or meaning of this symbolism?

The triple crossroad where Oedipus kills his father, Lauis, symbolizes fate. Crossroads generally signify choices..... choosing a path. In Oedipus' case, there was no choice..... as fate had its way.
