How the audience learned that Jocasta was dead and Oeudipus was blind?

Oedipus blinds humself.

A messenger brings the news of Jocasta's death. In a long speech, he says that Jocasta went into the palace, went straight to her bedroom and slammed the door, tearing her hair with her fingers. There she cried out to Laius and bemoaned the tragedy of her son/husband. Oedipus, bursting into the palace and demanding a sword, found that Jocasta had hanged herself.
