How does Sophocles use the timing of Creon entrance into the dialogue to create the tension for the audience

Creon enters just having heard that the king has accused him of wrongdoing. He is angry that the king would think him capable of betrayal. This creates tension within the room, which only becomes more enhanced as Oedipus enters and accuses Creon to his face.
