Illustrating an epic in the story

Several of the selections we read were 'epics'.  Explain what an epic is and use at least 2 different examples to illustrate the characteristics of an epic.

I used Oedipus and the Iliad.

Help?

An epic is a BIIIG story.  The Iliad is definitely an example.  Lots of characters, lots of action, and lots of complexity.

I don't know whether Oedipus qualifies, unless you consider the entire trilogy.
