In the first fifteen chapters, we come to know Obi as a person..... a person without much substance. Obi is given opportunities to better both himself and his people. He accepts the opportunities, but in the process, he lets go of all the customs, principles, and morality of his culture. He bends to bribery, makes poor choices, turns his back on his heritage, and displays the traits of someone who cannot even justify his own decisions when backed into a corner.
