How does each person torture one another?
Inez is probably the fiercest "torturer" in the play, and she is ruthless in her relationship with Garcin and Estelle. She is especially bad for Garcin, who is desperate for her to see that he is not a coward. Garcin tortures Estelle and Inez because he will not offer his affection for the former despite her advances. Estelle tortures Inez with her love for Garcin because Inez is attracted to Estelle.
