Why does Eliezer question god?

The narrator is faced with the burning of children before his eyes and questions god. Explain the signifigance of why he does this.

Elizer cannot worship a God that forsakes children. Elizer cannot fathom any reason a benevolent God would subject his children to such depravity and not do anything.
