Why did not Eliezer see his father die? Do you agree with his reaction ? Why or why not ?

Eliezer was frightened of the guards and remained in his bunk. His father had already been hit violently on the head with a truncheon. He stayed in his bunk for both of their safety. None-the-less, he knew his father was dying.
