What points is Wiesel making in the story about the woman who threw coins to young divers?

Wiesel's point in telling the story is to clarify that the woman's reasons for throwing the coins was not charitable.... her purpose was to watch the native boys fight over what she'd thrown. This woman's actions were very similar to the men who threw the bread to the starving prisoners.
