what is the purpose of this story? why write it? why read it?

I would never had read this if I hadn't seen this post and looked it up. It's a beautuful story. The purpose of this story is how to explain death to a small child............ but it's an explanation that no child can understand without having experienced it. to say "everything gets dead," in the context of life is simple......... to experience it while there's still a glimmer of hope in a little girls eyes is enough to make us realize that even we can't accept it. We can expain it, but we can't accept it, even for an animal beyond hope.
