Religion is everything to Elie, especially in the early part of the novel. Elie talks much about his religious discussions with Moshe the Beadle. Faith is the very definition of Elie's self. Much later in the novel, Elie becomes much more jaded about religion after the suffering and misery he and other Jews endure.
