Explain the concept of “selection” as practiced by the Nazis.

The Nazis select people they feel will be useful and not a threat. They have no use for intellectuals who can stir up trouble. At one point (Chapter 3) a seasoned prisoner learns that that Eliezer is 15 and his father is 50, the prisoner tells them they should be 18 and 40. THe Nazis want men who can follow directions and work. They also want healthy strong men who have worked on farms, are labourers.... The sick, old and too young are sent to the crematorium.
