Consider what you already know about the jewish condition during WWII. How might Moshe serve as a symbol for the extreme events that took place during the holocaust? How does his expirences foreshadow future events for the townspeople?

I do not know your knowledge of WW 2. I already knew the extent of the tragedies involving the holocaust before I read this book. Certainly Moshe's accounts represent the unthinkable cruelties inflicted on Jews during this time. Moshe's accounts foreshadow tragedies like the hanging of young Pipel in the camp.
