Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America

Is this narrative autobiographical ?

Think about the extent to which persona the author of the text adopt merges with or affects the real person who is behind the mask.

No, I would not consider this novel an autobiography. Nickel and Dimed is an ethnography, or example of investigative journalism. This does not, however, mean the author hasn't added fictive elements when re-creating scenes.
