Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America

Ehrenreich acknowledges that she is different from the people who normally fill America's least attractive jobs. In what ways is she different? What advantages does she have?

Ehrenreich is very different from those who normally work in low paying jobs. She has an education, works for a world reknown magazine, and was raised in a middle class family that hadn't experienced poverty. During her research, she made her own rules, drove a reliable car, and kept an ATM card for emergecies. If things got tough..... she left. Something your typical low wage earner would never be able to do.
