Although Ehrenreich finds the people in Minnesota friendly, her time there isn't easy. She has difficulty finding somewhere to stay, jobs do not pay enough to subsist on, and a lack of kitchen (she's staying at a hotel) means she is consistently eating fast food. In the end, she finds herself unable to survive and pretty much ends her experiment.
