Never Let Me Go

How does Kathy's first person narration affect the tone in the story?

How does the narration affect the tone? I have to write an essay answering this question using Formalist Criticism. Any answers would be helpful.

Kathy is writing this story in retrospect as a thirty-one-year-old woman. We get a very personal tone that reflects the raw emotions she was feeling at the time tempered with her maturity as a woman looking back. THis gives the story both immediacy of emotion and sombre reflection.
