How are kathy's relationship changing with the other students?

I think as caretaker, Kathy becomes increasingly distant from those she cares for. This is out of necessity. People are just merely donors and eventually, after about four donations, they die. Most of Kathy's dealings are with Ruth and Tommy. As donations are made, the social dynamics change. Ruth struggles between her roles as care giver, friend and romantic interest to Tommy.
