Bigger is bitter that white people have such racial dominance and freedom to do anything they like while blacks are marginalized and segregated to the bottom of society. Gus tells Bigger that white people live "right down here in my stomach...every time I think of 'em, I feel 'em...it's like fire..." Bigger and Gus feel the animosity towards whites that take what little blacks have, they resent being exploited and thrown away.
