Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Why does Douglass predict that a “very different-looking” class of slaves is springing up in the South? Why does he think this may be the downfall of slavery?

I think slaves are slowly finding how to be minimally educated. This will bring the downfall of slavery. Education, even a little education, breaks the cycle of fear and ignorance.
