Naked Lunch Irony

Naked Lunch Irony

The irony of manipulation and coordination

When the reader first comes across Dr. Benway, he thinks that he is a medical doctor who is valuable to saving lives in Mexico. But, satirically, the deeds of Dr. Benway are revealed by Lee when he is assigned to work for Benway. Dr. Benway is a total demoralizer, and he uses his expertise to control people's minds and manipulate them for his gain.

The irony of vomiting

Black meat is sold in the marketplace as one of the varieties of food available for consumers. Ironically, the black meat sold in the market is categorized as junk food which means Black Tar Heroin. Instead of people getting satisfied after eating the black meat, they vomit to get the energy of eating more.

The iron of the vignettes

The reader expects the vignettes to condemn drug abuse and highlight its negative effects on society. Characters such as Lee are using hard drugs such as heroin and opioids. The vignette's neutrality about the effects of drug addiction sounds satirical to readers.

The irony of Muslim Inc.

When the reader comes across Muslim Inc., he thinks that it is a religious entity whose primary intention is to save souls. But, satirically, Muslim Inc. is the place where orgies operate and commit vehement actions. Therefore, it beats logic that an institution given a religious name is after committing crimes and other unlawful activities.

The irony of government institutions

Lee demonstrates how political parties that form a government have sadistic manifestoes that do not benefit the governed people. Unfortunately, such political parties form a government through manipulation, and people are subjected to misery and suffering. Yet, according to the readers' expectations, the government is supposed to serve its people with integrity and enhance prosperity.
