Mythology

What is a myth that has the same theme as Pandora's Jar/Box?

I need to pair another myth with Pandora and I need for the paired myths to have a common theme.

Numerous similarities exist between the Pandora of Greek mythology and Eve of the Judaic book of Genesis. Both stories include an account of:

The divine creation of the first woman.

Disobedience to a divine command by that first woman.

A great calamity experienced by all mankind brought on by this woman's disobedience to a divine command, and

An attempt at explaining the origin of all resulting suffering and evil subsequently experienced by mankind.

I would almost change your purpose here......... there are very few stories that could actually pair up with the 'opening' of the box. I think a much better premise for your paper would be 'original sin' or the entrance of evil into the world. Her story directly parallels with the story of Eve. Eve was told not to eat the fruit just as Pandora was told not to open the box. Both of their actions effected the world they lived in.

If you look a bit further, you can find other stories from different cultures and religions that explain the beginning of evil/sin as well.
