in what ways did Matt help Sam

Mat come to the mountain to investigate sightings of a wild boy, of whom some approve and of whom some believe to be crazy. Matt intends to write an article about Sam directly, but Sam convinces him not to, offering Matt a deal: a chance to return in warmer weather to spend a few days and learn to live off the land, which excites Matt. Matt does not betray Sam’s trust, and returns in the spring –though he does bring news that public curiosity about Sam has grown immensely in the time since his last visit.
