Jim leaves for Lincoln and university. His life at university is filled with study, education, new ideas and new people. Black Hawk was a more primal pragmatic experience. People worked hard on the land either surviving or starving. Passions were raw and, at times, violent. There was no time or energy for education or progressive ideas.
