Why do you think Leonato does not believe his daughter?

Leonato is part of the patriarchal world of Elizabethan society. Women are possessions to men and prone to adulation or humiliation; there is often no in between. Leonarto easily accepts this rumor as a slight against his own manhood as a father rather than even asking his daughter about the accusations.
