Even though Claudio expresses interest in Hero, marriages were usually arranged by parents and interested parties. Don Pedro agrees that Hero would be a good match for Claudio. These unions also involved some sort of business transactions between the parents but this is not elaborated in in Much Ado about Nothing. The marriages often happened quickly after the decision is made.
