misfortune in itself is a poor teacher

How can I challenge the quote.."The play has no lessons to teach because war cannot teach anything of value. Or as Brecht put it 'Misfortune in itself is a poor teacher"

It depends on your context. The play is not really about war. It is about capitalism and greed during a war. Thus the lessons are that you need to put family ahead of money (which Mother Courage consistently fails to do) and put other people's lives ahead of profit.
