The narrator deduces that his father is going to the reservation because his father asks his mother if she wanted honey. The best honey, according to his mother, was to be bought at Birdwell's Bee farm located on the highway leading to the reservation. The narrator knew his father was going to inquire about the accusation that Marie had against his brother.
