How did David's grandfather take the news? When he says: "screwing an Indian or feeling her up or what ever, you don't lock up a man for that. You don't lock up your brother. A respected hero" what does this say about his attitude towards Native American?

Montana 1948. This is about his son Frank?

Grandfather is appalled by the new and defends his son. From the text, we can infer that Grandfather had no respect for Indians and not only seemed to see them as inferior, but rather, less than human.
