What do you think Ishmael means when he says that the ship is floating community? Do you think it is necessary for this community to have an order of command? Why (not).

There are so many men on this ship with mysterious pasts and odd characteristics. They all need to co-exist like a community on this ship. A strong command is necessary for this community to function. These men are easily swayed by their own interests. Mutiny is always a danger on these ships. The Captain must always have strong sway and controll over his crew if he is to survive the voyage.
