The sea reveals man cannot comprehend its many mysteries. It also proves to man that man himself is small and insignificant in a relative way because man is the size of a flea when contrasted with the sea; thus, man's attempt to control this huge vast expanse of water is futile. Finally, man's time on earth is short while the sea is "forever."
