Who is Mr. Paul and what does he have in common with Hiram's dad?

Mr. Paul is the local storeowner. Like Hiram's father, he encourages him to do the right thing regardless of the outcome. Paul also plays the role of trusted mentor. He is fatherly in his actions, and always looks out for him. His influence is obvious in Hiram's reactions.
