Whenever Shakespeare puts his play into a pastoral or forest setting, there is confusion in the order of things. What existed in the "civilized" world is turned upside down. Shakespeare uses this chaos to explore his themes. The characters in Midsummer Night's dream are both mistaken for each other and under the effects of Puck's love juice. The order of relationship is shaken up until the chaos results an a new order at the end of the play.
