Hermia is passionate and headstrong, even defiant when it comes to her passions. She is supposed to marry Demetrius but is in love with Lysander. Her father is upset at her headstrong rebellion to the point of being brought before Duke Theseus. Here she even stands up for herself.
"Full of vexation come I with complaint
Against my child, my daughter Hermia...".(Act 1 scene 1)
