I recall somebody brought this to a book talk once. Apparently Savannah, Georgia is the main character here. The setting provides comparisons and contrasts. You have your basic murder but then an array of characters who juxtapose each other. There is a foul mouthed drag queen and a pesticide worker with poison so potent, it can destroy the whole country. The author grips us with a South that is dripping with atmosphere along with a Sothern gothic tone.
