Michael Vey
The protagonist of the book who suffers from Tourettes Syndrome. He learns he has electric powers alongside 17 others and is the target of Dr Hatch.
Taylor
Michael's crush, and a high school cheerleader. She also has electric powers that include mind reading. She is kidnapped by Hatch and has the strength to disobey him.
Ostin
Michael's genius best friend, who discovers the creation of Michael's powers being down to Elgen and their machine MEI. He is Michael's aid throughout the book.
Dr Hatch
Involved in covering up the deaths of many children due to his creation of the machine, MEI, that was intended to cure illnesses. He intends to use the children's powers for his own means and recruits them by offering scholarships to Elgen Academy.
Wade
Michael's bully and tormenter. A few years older at 17, due to being held back, he is is insecure. He picks a fight with Michael and tries to embarrass him in front of Taylor. However, he becomes friends with Michael after giving him a ride to Elgen Acdemedy
Nichelle
A Glow with the power of draining others powers. She is used as a weapon by Hatch to weaken the other Glows when they disobey him.
