Michael Vey
The protagonist of the book and a Glow. His superpowers include electric shocking (surging) and he is noted as the leader of the electroclan.
Tessa
A glow that Michael meets during his captivity. Real name, Tessla, she is also a Glow and joins the electroclan. Her powers include being able to enhance the abilities of other Glows.
Ostin
Michael's best friend who is a normal human, but is part of the rebellion. He is a genius and has an IQ of 165.
Hatch
The main antagonist of the novel, he is attempting to use the Glows for his own benefits. Though initially outcasted in the book due to his failure in the power plant, he eventually takes over to become Chairman of Elgen.
Jaime
A non-electric human who meets Michael and Tessa and joins the cause. He is is a jungle guide and is guided by the ambiguous voice.
Schema
Former Chairman of Elgen. He is responsible for Hutch's displacement but ultimately is overthrown and becomes a fugitive.
