Why should we "not be surprised if we find among the Christians some people who are still nasty"?

Being a Christian does not take people's human nature away. It is not God that makes people nasty rather than the free will He gives people to act how they want. Lewis argues that it is with God's help that one can overcome their baser nature and turn from nasty to nice.
