How is faith on level one different from level 2?

In book 3 chapter 12, how is this level of Faith (level 2) different from level 1?

Faith in level one is about, "Holding on to things your reason has once accepted, in spite of your changing moods." Level two involves, "Some serious attempt to practise the Christian virtues."
