Prejudice- In this play, against the Jews.

Inhumane Treatment and Denigration- Shakespeare used the character of Shylock to represent how the philosophy of humanism can in fact be abusive to outsiders.

Revenge and Mercy- Shylock wishes to take revenge on Antonio (a symbol for all those prejudice against him), whereas Portia and the Duke try to counteract this wish by looking for mercy.
