Portia's importance

Portia is an important part of this novel becuse of her intelligence and common sense. With everything that's going on, Portai keeps her head. Let's face it, she isn't allowed to choose her own husband, her place is to defer all decisions to the men in her life, and yet, she defies all and acts independently.
