Antonio guarntees repayment with a pound of his own flesh. Shylock requires this unnatural bond because he despises Antonio due to his own money lending practices (Antonio charges no interest, which effects Shylock's moneylending practices. Antonio agrees to the bond because he believes he won't have any problem with repayment. He also believes that Shylock isn't serious about the bond.
