Book I: My Father Bleeds History

As the book opens, it is 1978, and Art Spiegelman arrives in Rego Park, NY, to dine with his father, Vladek, a Holocaust survivor. 1. On page 93, Mala says that Vladek is more attached to things than people. Why might Mala say this? Do you believe this is true?
