Why did Art Spiegelman include himself in the very beginning of Maus?

Why the novel start with Art going to his father? I need the answer of this question before the 10th of June,I hope your answer will help me. Thank you!

Art is the primary protagonist who will explore the other protagonist Vladek (Art's father). Art is a reliable protagonist who can give context into Vladek's life. Spiegelman is able to ground the reader in the present to equip us to better interpret Vladek's memories of the past.
