How does Vladek feel about the hangings? Why does he feel this way?

Vladek says, “I was frightened to go outside for a few days…I didn’t want to pass where they were hanging. And maybe one of them could have talked of me to the Germans to try to save himself.” We can infer that his feelings relate to a fear of experiencing the same fate.
