Art Spiegleman settled upon a very simplistic drawing style to tell his story. How would this story have changed if executed in a more ''realistic'' style?

One possibility is that the simplistic drawing makes the focus much more on the story than on the drawings themselves.  Also, the drawings of the animals, by being simplitic, emphasize that animal are simple beings, but the behavior of the Nazis was indeed animalistic, as we define the word in a very negative way.
