Act 1 scene 6 is the last to occur in daylight until act 5. Explain why this is important?

There is some dramatic irony going on in this scene. Both King Duncan and Banquo comment on the "gentle" air around Macbeth's castle. The audience knows what is being planned and it is anything but gentle. The play continues in relative darkness to reflect the evil deed that L. Macbeth and Macbeth perpetrate. The darkness also represents the chaos in the Elizabethan universe as a result of Duncan's murder.
