What effect does the image of blood, used repeatedly in act 4 of the tragedy of macbeth , have?

The witch’s evil brew has blood imagery in it, "Cool it with a baboon’s blood". We see images of blood during the apparition appearances as well. There is also a lot of blood during the brutal attack on the Macduff castle by Macbeth's henchmen. Macduff's son is killed and L. Macduff is killed. All this blood represents the depths of Macbeth's depravity. He is truly in "blood stepped in so far." Macbeth is a changed man. He no longer laments about killing his fellow countrymen. He has no longer has any qualms about killing: he has past the point of no return.
