Macbeth

In Act IV there are many images and/or motifs (ideas) of darkness & night, blood & death, nature & the supernatural.

What purpose do they serve?

They serve to underscore Macbeth's descent into madness and paranoia. Macbeth is dependent on dark powers to hold onto the crown as well as validate himself as king.
