By murdering King Duncan, Macbeth has effectively murdered his own sleep.

Macbeth does murder sleep”—the innocent sleep, Sleep that knits up the raveled sleave of care, The death of each day’s life, sore labor’s bath, Balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course, 40Chief nourisher in life’s feast. Act 2 sc 2 Macbeth has ruined is conscience. Killing the king will make him a king but will also ruin his sense of mental peace and well being. Because of his guilt, Macbeth suffers from insomnia and nightmares.
